WHO AM I ?

Today is the 4th day of a five day long "Chinese New Year" holiday here(S.Korea). Finally all the celebration of the Chinese New Years day is coming to an end. Lets hope that the New Year brings happiness and peace for the world. In the words of the Chinese - "Guo Nian Hao"(Happy New Year).

Now that I am not yet in ISB, I find ample time but no contents to write in this blog. So I have decided to pen down my complete decision process-starting from "why MBA" to "why ISB".

But before entering into the details, I will like to write down something more about myself.

1) After completing my graduation (B.Tech from IIT Madras in 2002 in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering), I joined a tanker(shipping) company as a Naval Architect. They say shipping is the "most international business". And now, after being in shipping industry for almost 4 years I realise how true it is. Most of the time, I find myself in different countries in various roles ranging from ship building and ship repair to maritime environmental protection projects. When I am in India, I can be traced in either Mumbai (Indian office) or Bhubaneswar(the place I belong to).

2) My schooling is from Orissa, from Nirmala Convent School, Keonjhar (Pre KG to Class 6); D.A.V Public School, Unit 8, Bhubaneswar (Class 7 to Class 10); B.J.B. Junior College, Bhubaneswar (Class 11 and 12). So if anybody from any of these places is reading this blog, do drop a mail. It is very nice experience to get a mail from long lost friends.

Well now lets get back to Journey - "Why MBA" to "Why ISB". This is a long journey. I exactly cannot remember when this started, but I guess sometimes during the 3rd year of my job.

To create a systematic approach,I divide this complex journey into the following subparts, each of which I will discuss in the subsequent blogs.

1) Why MBA, in spite of decent career growth?
2) Pre-requisites for B-School admission- GMAT.
3) Choice of B-Schools, both India and Abroad.
4) Why ISB.

My next blog will deal with the 1st question. Till then goodbye.
